Atlanta has long been recognized as a center of Black culture, wealth, and community. This project examines how that identity is shifting in the context of the Atlanta BeltLine. Using data from 2000, 2010, and 2020, I analyze how income, rent, and racial composition change in relation to proximity to the BeltLine.
The key finding is that neighborhoods closest to the BeltLine experienced the most dramatic changes. Income increased by over 145%, rent more than doubled, and the Black population declined while the White population increased. These patterns point to gentrification and displacement pressures in historically Black communities.
